Sulphur resident, Billy Frank Warren, born December 2, 1941, to Leonard and Minnie (Newberry) Warren, was called home on November 8, 2023. Bill attended Sulphur Schools and at 17 signed up for the National Guard. Bill later enlisted in the US Navy in 1960. While serving as an electrician on the U.S.S. Dahlgren DLG-12, he was stationed in the Philippines.
Upon returning to Murray County, a pretty little nurse named Delores Payne caught his attention. Bill and Delores were married July 9, 1966. The couple lived in Oklahoma City while he worked at Tinker Air Force Base, but soon returned to plant their roots in the Davis-Sulphur area. While in Davis, he owned and operated Bill’s Upholstery and began working as a Park Ranger for Platt National Park, later known as the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. The couple moved to Sulphur where Bill retired from the Park’s Maintenance Division.
Bill and Delores had two daughters, Kelly and Shannon. He enjoyed fast cars, guns and knife making, but his proudest joy in life was his three grandkids Conner, Kylan and Landry. Bill was always willing to do anything, buy anything, go anywhere and most importantly offer his parental advice when it came to his grandkids. He had a big heart that was willing to help those in need, child or adult, whether it be a meal, a coat, shoes, money or just someone to check on them from time to time.
Bill is survived by his wife, Delores, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Mark Dunn; daughter and son-in law, Shannon and Jess Couch; grandson and wife, Conner and Cindy Dunn; granddaughters, Kylan Couch and Landry Couch and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition, his extended family of loving caregivers Addie McClellan, Laura Carter, Sherry Parrott, Vickie Surface and Ashlie Frazier.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jo Aaron, Ginger Cleveland; Sue Madigan and Mickey Warren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the Crossway First Baptist Church in Sulphur, with Pastor Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment, with Naval Military Honors, will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery, in Davis.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Bill’s honor to any organization that would bless those dear to his heart: Veterans, children, and any person or animal in need of food or simply a kind word.
