Betty Lou West


Betty was born March 26, 1924 in Maud, OK to the late Stanley & Dania Mae (Cox) Amason. She died Monday, June 23, 2014 in Sulphur, at the age of 90 years. Betty & John Fred West were married on July 12, 1942 in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1979. Others preceding her in death include an infant son, Gerald West; granddaughter, Cara Lynne and great grandson, Troy.

Betty spent her working career in food service. For many years she cooked at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital and the Sulphur Veteran’s Center. In her later years, Betty worked as a Foster Grandparent at Sulphur Schools. She enjoyed singing every chance she had. Betty was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Sulphur and the American Legion Auxillary.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Dilbeck of Sulphur; two sons, Johnny West & wife Mary of Longview, TX and Jim West & wife Evelyn of Sulphur; 10 grandchildren, Donna, Sheri, Davilon, Elizabeth, Tonya, Jimmy, Dita, Mara, Roger & Mark; 30 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; as well as one sister, Darlene Algeo of Choctaw and two brothers, Billy Algeo of Harrah and Don Lucas & wife Paula of Midwest City.
