Betty Lou Deatherage

Betty Lou (Pope) Deatherage was born September 22, 1924 in the Hennepin area to the late Andrew and Susie (Poe) Pope. She departed this life on October 18, 2020, at the age of 96 years and 26 days.

Betty grew up in the Hennepin area where she attended and graduated from Woodland School. Betty worked from a young age picking cotton with the family, then later going to work for the telephone company. She worked as an operator for Chickasaw Telephone Company for many years until her retirement.

Betty married Harold Deatherage on her birthday in 1947. From that union they had three daughters, Lana, Cheryl and Connie. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2005. Harold was an electrician and she would travel with him for work. She and Harold raised three amazing women who touched so many people’s hearts and lives. The family is together again with their Heavenly Father.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by all three of her children, Cheryl, Lana and Connie Deatherage; 3 sisters, Wenonah Yancey, Eunita “Nita” Walburn and Ann Jack and brother, George Pope. Betty is survived by her sister, Marcia Jo Tice of Ardmore.
