Betty Jean Peterman

Services for Betty Jean Peterman will be held 10:00AM, Tuesday, Aug 11, 2015 at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Davis with Pastor Bryan Hetherington officiating.

Betty was born Apr 7, 1924 in Davis to the late Thomas & Theodosha (Cravatt) Kirby. She died Sunday, Aug 2, 2015 in Sulphur, at the age of 91 years 3 months & 25 days.

Betty grew up in Davis. After graduating from Davis High School in 1942, she attended the University of Oklahoma. It was while attending OU, Betty met the love of her life, Edwin “Ward” Peterman, who was serving in the United States Air Force. She and Ward were married on Dec 23, 1944 in Davis, while he was home on leave. Betty & Ward made their home in Germany for several years, prior to his discharge and moving back to Davis. In 1996, after Ward retired, they moved to Sulphur, where she remained until her death.

Betty was an avid reader. She enjoyed reading the Bible and cooking. She devoted her time to caring for Ward during his failing health. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Sulphur.

Survivors include her daughter, Natalie Sue Shillington of Davis; son, Kirby Peterman of Texas; four granddaughters, Lesley Shillington Ley, Rachel & Hannah Shillington and Blake Peterman; as well a great-grandchildren including Gabriel Shillington & Harper Hargis.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and step-father, J.G. Griffits.
