Anna Drue Mcfarland

March 23, 1928 — October 11, 2019

Funeral services for Anna Drue (Etchieson) McFarland will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, October 14, 2019 at Crossway First Baptist Church in Sulphur with Pastor Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

Anna was born March 23, 1928 in the Sunshine Community, near Hickory, OK, to the late James Leonard and Edna Jewel (Clary) Etchieson. She died Friday, October 11, 2019 in Sulphur, at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 18 days. Anna and George Edgar McFarland were married on March 30, 1947 in Davis. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1997.

Anna grew up in the Roff area. She was a 1946 graduate of Roff High School. Following their marriage, Anna and George moved to Davis, where they raised their four children, Mike, Danny, Amy and Linda. During the earlier years of her marriage, Anna was a stay at home mother, caring for and raising her children. After the kids were a little older, she worked at the Womack’s Dairy Freeze in Davis, prior to working at the Murray County Courthouse. While working at the courthouse, Anna spent 15 years in the County Clerk’s office, and her final 10 years with the Murray County Election Board.

Anna was a resident of Davis for 51 years. While living in Davis, she was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Davis, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Following the death of her husband, Anna decided she needed to be closer to her daughter, so she moved to Sulphur. She quickly became an active member of the Crossway First Baptist Church, where she continued her work for the Lord. She was a member of the SASO Choir, as well as taught Sunday school.

Anna was a very devoted mother and grandmother. She loved each one of her children and grandchildren in their own special way. Her family, as well as many friends, could always count on Anna to lend an ear when they needed someone to talk to. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing card games, traveling and sewing.

Survivors include two daughters, Amy Shirley & husband Jeff of Sulphur and Linda Cowart & husband Bruce of Ada; two sons, Mike McFarland of Okmulgee and Danny McFarland & wife Kim of Duncan; six grandchildren, Tim McFarland, Joseph Shirley & wife Kathey, Chris Cowart, Colby Cowart & wife Laura, Caitlin Tharp & husband Camden and Andy McFarland; one sister, Margie Barrow & husband Jim of Bethany; two brothers, Jim Etchieson & wife Rhonda of Bixby and Ed Etchienson & wife Nancy of Midlothian, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Barbara McFarland.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Shirley, Bruce Cowart, Chris Cowart, Colby Cowart, Andy McFarland and Camden Tharp. Honorary bearers will be Tim McFarland and Joseph Shirley.
