Eddie Arnold Tomlinson was born November 10, 1946, in Mojave, CA, to the late Alvin Arnold & Meta Ernie (Jones) Tomlinson. He died Thursday, June 29, 2023, in Sulphur, at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 19 days. Eddie and the former Ms. Dixie Diane Hawkins were united in marriage on June 2, 1966, in Davis. From this union were born three children, Eddie Ray, Shellie, and Brandon.
Eddie grew up in Wynnewood, graduating from Wynnewood High School, Class of 1965. Following high school, he attended East Central University, where he majored in Education. While in college, Eddie served in the Oklahoma Army Reserves, as well as working full-time for Sequoyah Carpet Mills in Davis.
In 1973, he and his family moved to Wellington, KS, where he spent several years working with Champion Home Builders. In 1981, the family moved back to Davis, where Eddie became employed with Halliburton Services. Following his retirement from Halliburton in 1993, Eddie returned to East Central where he earned a master’s in education and School Administration. At the same time, Eddie ventured into real estate, which led him to become a licensed realtor, owning numerous rental properties and apartment complexes. Following his final retirement in 2021, Eddie spent much of his time fishing. His passion for the sport of fishing brought him great joy, especially since it was shared with his sons and grandsons. Eddie served ten years on the Board of Education for the Davis Public School as well as several terms on the City of Davis Planning Board.
Eddie, often referred to as “Big Eddie” was a very straightforward individual. He said what he thought, whether you wanted to hear it or not. He was very much old school, believing that a man’s word was his bond, and a handshake sealed the deal. He believed that everyone had the potential to succeed in life, but they had to put forth the effort. Eddie was a very supportive person. He loved to see young people achieve goals and become successful.
Survivors include his loving wife, Dixie; three children, Eddie Ray Tomlinson & wife Sallie, Shellie (Tomlinson) Moore & husband Taylor, and Brandon Tomlinson & wife Bethia, all of Davis; five grandsons, whom he was very proud of, Ethan Tomlinson & wife Randi, Justin Tomlinson & wife Haleigh, Tyler Tomlinson & wife Brittney, Gavin Moore, and Mason Tomlinson; four great grandchildren, Lincoln, Lawson, Rylen and Easton; as well as two sisters, Neva Erwin and Dorothy Yeatts.
